How Shorts differ from TikTok
- Views count every start and replay. Since March 2025, YouTube counts a Short’s view each time it starts or replays (TechCrunch). A Short that loops cleanly back into its hook earns replays.
- Viewed vs swiped away. YouTube Studio shows how many viewers chose to watch rather than swipe; it’s the first number to check on every Short.
- Search and your channel matter. Shorts appear on your channel and in search, so a clear title helps them get found later.
- Up to three minutes, but server Shorts work best at 20–40 seconds.
Design for the loop
The mod and server showcases we studied often end within half a second of the last word, with no outro, so the video flows straight back into the hook. If you also need an end card, keep it short and lay the address over live footage instead of a static screen, so the loop still feels like part of the video.
Titles, descriptions and hashtags
- Title: say what happens, in plain words people search for: “The mine that never stops (prison server)”.
- Description: the address in the first line, then one sentence about the server and the Discord link.
- Hashtags: three to five relevant tags in the description, such as #minecraft #minecraftserver #shorts and your game mode. YouTube lets you add hashtags in the title or description (YouTube Help).
- Pinned comment: the address and versions.
Shorts safe zones
The Shorts player puts the title, channel and subscribe button at the bottom, the search bar at the top, and the like and comment buttons on the right. Keep captions and the IP badge out of roughly the top 12%, the bottom quarter and the right-hand 13% of the frame. Narrated captions about 70% down and skit captions about 28% down both sit safely.
Shorts formats that work for servers
- Feature ladder: a hook, what the feature is, three to five escalating details, and the most extreme use or a question. This is how the mod showcases we measured are built.
- Top 5 lists: “Top 5 things you need on our server”, each item a numbered Minecraft-font title.
- Story Shorts: broke to rich, a failed gamble, a betrayal, with a grayscale flashback.
- How to join: the exact steps, sped up, with the address enlarged.

Frequently asked questions
Are YouTube Shorts good for promoting a Minecraft server?
Yes. Shorts are recommended to Minecraft viewers who don’t follow you yet and stay discoverable through your channel and search, so a good Short can bring players for weeks.
How long should a Minecraft server Short be?
Usually 20–40 seconds. Shorts can be up to three minutes, but short, tightly cut videos that loop well tend to hold viewers better.
Should I post the same video on TikTok and Shorts?
You can, but use a separate join address per platform so you can see which one brings players, and adjust the caption and title to each.
Do hashtags matter on YouTube Shorts?
They help YouTube understand the topic. Use a few relevant ones, such as #minecraft, #minecraftserver and your game mode, rather than a long list.
